Boda Boda repair day
Our first Boda Boda repair day was a milestone event — not only for Open Road Prophets but also for the region, and we believe it was the first of its kind in this part of Kenya.
The day was a tremendous success, drawing over 100 motorbikes and their riders from Oyugis and the surrounding areas.
The preparation for the event had been many weeks in the making. Our team, led by Tobias Ogweno, worked tirelessly to build relationships with local Boda Boda leaders, ensuring their support and trust.
We also partnered with the Bajaj dealership in Kisii, securing an agreement to source only original manufacturer parts to guarantee quality and safety.
Additionally, we organised access to a local air compressor so that every bike could leave with properly inflated, road-safe tyres — a small but crucial step in preventing accidents.

Helping those in need
From the outset, our goal was to ensure that every rider felt valued and appreciated. These young men form the backbone of transport and local commerce, yet are often overlooked or undervalued.
Our founder, Ed Tranter, opened the day by sharing the story and purpose behind Open Road Prophets, emphasizing our commitment to helping the community stay safe and thrive.
He then led a practical safety demonstration, showing how to check brakes, oil, and chains to prevent breakdowns and injuries.
Throughout the day, Ed worked alongside two local mechanics, Justice and George, and together they completed 75 full bike services — an extraordinary achievement given the conditions and time constraints.
"This feels like we have only scratched the surface, with tens of thousands of these bikes in the area, but it is an important first step!"
Each bike left safer, stronger, and better equipped for the demanding work ahead. The event ended with smiles, gratitude, and a deep sense of accomplishment.
The riders not only left with serviced bikes but also with knowledge, dignity, and the reassurance that their wellbeing truly matters. The success of this first repair day stands as powerful testimony to the need for continued support and collaboration within the Boda Boda community.
