Christmas at Kisii Prison

25/12/2024

Open Road Prophets was honoured to partner with Kisii Prison for our Christmas initiative this year. During a recent visit, we asked the inmates and staff what a traditional Kenyan Christmas treat would be, and they told us chapatti.

Inspired by their answer, we arranged to provide a 400kg bull, several goats, and large quantities of chapattis, ensuring that all 1,600 inmates — men, women, and children — could enjoy a festive and hearty meal.

The initiative brought joy and celebration to the prison community, offering a sense of togetherness and holiday spirit. We pray for blessings, happiness, and continued hope for all the Kisii inmates and staff this Christmas and in the year ahead.

Helping those in need

All of our projects at Kisii Prison are focused on making a real difference in the lives of those living and working there.

We aim to support the Governor, the prison staff, and the chaplaincy team in providing care, encouragement, and practical assistance. By working alongside them, we help show love and support to the inmates, ensuring their basic needs are met while fostering hope, dignity, and a sense of community.

Every project — from building and repairs to providing essential supplies — is guided by the belief that even small acts of care can have a lasting impact.

"To enable this sort of treat is very rare, and it made a big difference to all of the inmates, it was a real celebration."
